Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for when hiring a contractor?

Not all companies or irrigation contractors are created equal. We recommend looking for professionals that can at least produce proof of Workers Safety and Insurance Board standing, proof of liability insurance, certification,  years in business, association membership, etc. (see full list here)

Can Way to Grow Irrigation service my system even though it wasn’t originally installed by them?

Yes we can! In fact we take care of many systems that we did not install. Over time many contractors come and go in the Muskoka area and clients get tired of calling other contractors to show up to service their systems. We pride ourselves in treating our clients the way we would want to be treated.

Should I call my contractor for spring start-up and winterizing of my system?

Once you become a client we take care of the essential services like spring start-up and winterization of your system automatically. We also strive to have access to all components so that we can complete our service tasks without needing to bother anyone. This is one of the things our clients comment on the most. They love that we just take care of it and them. You’re on the list!

How much water can a smart controller save?

There are too many factors pertaining to water conservation to list here, but typically smart controllers can save around 25% - 60% over a normal controller.

How much water can I take from the lake without a permit?

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) regulates the taking of water in the province. Under Section 34 of the Ontario Water Resources Act, a Permit to Take Water (PTTW) is required for most water takings of 50,000 litres (13,209 gallons) per day or greater in Ontario, An average sprinkler system with 6 zones takes approximately 6814 litres (1800 gallons) per cycle.

I live on a lake. What kind of pump do I need?

Great question for irrigation in the Muskoka and surrounding area! Way to Grow Irrigation specializes in irrigation pumps and has installed many different sizes and models around the Muskoka region. We look at many different aspects of the site when choosing a pump, like shallow or deep water, boat house or sleeping cabin close by for noise, GPM needed, visually appealing, vandalism, etc. We prefer submersible pumps because they are unseen, quiet, more efficient, longer lasting, stronger, etc and try to use these pump wherever applicable.

How do I know which irrigation system is best suited to my property?

When you hire a professional, they will work with you to design the best system for your needs. They will take into consideration things like, water source, soil type, climate, plant material, even budget. They will also inform you on cost effective ways to conserve water and energy, with different service options.

Will an automatic sprinkler system water as effectively as I can water by hand?

A sprinkler system will actually water better and more efficiently because a professionally designed system will deliver the right amount of water at the right time and prevent losses from wind, evaporation, etc.

Landscape Lighting

Landscape lighting is the finishing touch to any property. Way to Grow Irrigation can design a system to match your style and extend your outdoor living space well into the night. We often strive for spectacular places in the daylight but neglect to see the potential for enjoying these spaces after dark. Not only does lighting beautify your home or cottage, it also adds overall security by placing fixtures in specific areas to give the appearance of an occupied dwelling. Safety concerns are always addressed by lighting stairs and gated areas to safely navigate your property at night.

What brand of equipment does Way to Grow Irrigation install?

We are dedicated to installing quality products not from just one company such as Toro or Rainbird but mix all types to give the owner the best possible parts on the market to date. Not products that were purchased in bulk ten years ago! After all, our name is on the job too!  See products...
